Don't lose your dreams to protect your days

The Canadian Rockies (Yoho, Banff and Jasper)

We rounded up our visit with Penelope and Dan with a delicious Sunday brunch in Fernie, packed up and said our good-byes. It was again gorgeous weather and we rode towards Banff. Still dry conditions everywhere with brown grass looking like late summer. Rode past a couple of black bears on the side of the road in Kootenay Nat’l Park and even a Grizzly. It wasn’t all that scary!!

Large areas in this park must have been hit by wildfires a while ago, because we saw new trees growing from underneath. Looked pretty ghostly.

We stopped in Lake Louise to inquire about campgrounds and perhaps staying at a hostel but decided to drive to Yoho Nat’l Park instead and just camp there at Monarch campground. It all still looked familiar since we’ve only been here a couple of years ago with the boys. We even found the same campground in Yoho where we camped on our West Coast Tour with the boys and the tent trailer.

Yesterday we took the scenic Icefields Parkway all the way to Jasper. I am always in aw when I see the Rocky Mountains with the snow covered tops. Tourist Season is starting and lots of RV’s, buses and cars on the road, which suddenly all come to a full stop in the middle of the highway as soon as they see wildlife, so extra attention is vital.

We found a nice campground (Whistlers) near the town of Jasper and decided to stay for 2 nights. Today we rode to beautiful Maligne Lake with almost beautiful weather, just the mountains being a bit foggy at the top. We hiked up Opal Hills mountain but had to turn back three quarters of the way because the snow was knee deep. There is still so much to do and see here but I think we have to move on.

Hi guys, I love following your route and adventure. Some of it I know, as we did the Alaska trip many moons ago – mostly along the Trans-Canada Highway.

Enjoy the Yukon when you get there, it’s beautiful!

    Safe travels!
