Don't lose your dreams to protect your days

First two days of travel

We left our home Thursday morning and headed north to Tobermory. What a perfect day to ride a motorcycle. Not a cloud in the sky, nothing but sunshine. There was still lots of ice on the east shore of lake Huron to our surprise and we were wondering if the ferry would go to Manitoulin. We arrived at Bruce Peninsula National Park and had a nice campsite near Cyprus Lake.

Went to town in the evening and had dinner at the Crowsnest Pub. Two pounds of chicken wings and a pitcher of beer, our kids would be proud of us, no vitamins in that dinner :).

It all felt good and my thoughts started to disconnect from home. There was so much work done the last couple of days to prepare everything and pack the bikes – we started to relax at the pub and had a nice conversation with two other BMW Riders.

We finished the night with a nice bottle of red wine from Andrew and Debbie (that they gave us at the go-away party) and watched the sun set over cyprus lake. Thank You Andrew and Debbie.

Friday we had to rush to take down the camp. The ferry left at 9 AM. Lake was clear, no ice around Tobermory so the ferry (Chi-Cheemaun) was good to go. Feli had a huge hangover with headaches. Poor wife – too much drinking.

The ferry left on time and we relaxed with a lot of coffee and we had breakfast on the ship. We looked on the map and decided to contact a couple in Michigan that we met last year at the BMW Rallye in Minnesota. Dick and Jeanne invited us to their home in Gladstone Michigan.

We arrived there late at 8:30 PM and what a joyful welcome. They served us dinner and a we felt right at home. They are both retired teachers and just a joyful couple. We stayed overnight in their guest room and had a wonderful time. They gave us lots of travel tips through the Northern States and sayed goodbye after a wonderful breakfast. Hopefully we can return the favour when they travel through Ontario in the future.

Thank You so much for your friendship and hospitality.

Heinz

Well, so much said already! Mybutt is kinda getting used to this riding, but yesterday we burned quite a bit of rubber! You had to mention my hang over, Heinz!

That was a great way of starting the trip! But at least the alcohol helped getting a good first night sleep in the tent

Feli.

Have thought of you often . Sounds like you had a great start. We will also think of you when we travel and bike on Manitoulin the first week of June. Really fun to follow your travels .

No sympathy on the hangovers!! Glad the wine was good….having spent many nights at Cyprus Lake myself, I couldn’t think of a better place to down that bottle!
